The documentation records that this "contains the current locations for @STATREC". This is a little misleading. @MODAL is a dynamic array of multivalues, sub-value delimited, relating to cell 3 in the current status line.

The format of this varible is described in UTILITY.DOC in CALL.STATUP. It is used when cell 3 on the status line is to contain multiple values. Each multivalue contains two sub-values: the column position to update and the format (Justification#Length) to be used to display the data. The multivalue number corresponds to the sub-cell number, ie first multivalue describes first sub-cell, second second etc. Can be amended.
